Perinatal Visit #1

Well the big drum roll will have to wait for another 5 weeks! The tech was big in office policy and wouldn't disclose the gender nor even adventure down in that region to try to guess! That's okay, the wait will be worth it!

I got some awesome time with this little peanut and got some great pictures too!

Dr Katz is amazing! I feel so good with him and it was the first visit! You just know when someone is a good person/dr! He broke it down for us! He told us that he looked at my past ultrasounds with Kau'e and also this is one and said that he couldn't see anything as far as my cervix goes that could have caused my preterm labor. But he said that after my 27 week ultrasound with Kau'e that something could have changed! We just don't know because well why would they have questioned things when things were going so well! With today's ultrasound with baby #2 my cervix looked good and after an exam he said that it felt great.

So with that we will go back to him on week 17, week 20, and week 22. He said at the 20th week we will also do the normal ultrasound to check everything out! The reason for going to him every 2 to 3 weeks is to check on the cervix and see if anything has changed. If things haven't changed and we are at week 22 then we will do a cervix challenge. He said that as your belly/baby grows more pressure is put on the cervix and therefore can shorten it. If doing this challenge puts pressure on it then I will need to have a cervical cerclage where they literally put stitches to help hold you together! But the tricky thing is that this procedure can't be done after 23 weeks. After that if we find that my cervix thins then the answer is BED REST! Nice huh!?

He said he can't tell the future nor tell what happened in the past but he said that he is 10% sure it won't be the same with this baby as with Kau'e! Ha! I love the honesty of him! So for now we will have to wait until my next appointment, March 20. If things look good then we wait for week 20 (April 11).

Wish us luck!
