Yup, that's right Romulo and I did BLACK FRIDAY! and it was great! We were at the Outlets at midnight and had a list in hand. Here were some of the deals we got:
Cole Haan store 50% off EVERYTHING and additional 20% off if you shopped 12am-8am
Movado 70% off EVERYTHING (Romulo was in watch heaven.)
Ann Taylor 50% off EVERYTHING
Perfume/Lancome Make-up Prices reduced plus additional 30%
Doesn't seem like much but trust me we made a good dent in our wallets! Merry Christmas to us!
After hitting our stores and going into some more we made our way to Kohls. We got in the parking lot at 3:20am and the line was very short. We decided to just sit in the car since we had been going since 11:30pm. We waited til everyone in line was in the store and made our way to the items we wanted! I kept telling Romulo not to worry because all those women were going to the toy/kitchen sections and we could have free range to everything else. And man, I love it when I'm right!
I had my camera with me but totally forgot about taking pictures. Should have taken pictures of the lines that were forming in front of the Gucci, Coach, and Michael Kors outlet stores. It was insane trust me. But Burberry was way too good for us Midnight people. They didn't open their store until 6am. And there was a line forming when we walked passed it at 2:25am.
Romulo and I made it into bed around 6am and kept thinking to myself good thing I don't have to work today. We were up for 21 hours and my body was trashed. But totally worth it with the deals!

Waterfront's Thanksgiving
For this year's Thanksgiving meal Romulo and I wanted to eat somewhere in San Francisco. We weren't going anywhere for the holiday so we decided why not enjoy this beautiful city. I gave Romulo full range in picking a place and I think he did a pretty good job at it. He chose The Waterfront. It's a beautiful restaurant that sits right along the Embarcadero water and faces the Bay Bridge. The dinner was amazing in taste and service. I could sit there and enjoy the scenery, company of my husband, and the food. All without worrying about the clean up. After dinner we drove around the city to see the Christmas trees and lights. The city is so magical around this time of the year. The pictures below are of the restaurant, the view of the bridge from our table, the oh so yummy pumpkin dessert, and the Christmas Tree at Pier 39 (Fisherman's Wharf).

Blind Side
If I have any influence in the blog world it would be to tell everyone to see the movie "Blind Side". It makes you realize how much of an influence and affect you have on people. Seeing the movie tonight really made me sit back and count my many blessings.
So, on this Thanksgiving weekend remember what really matters most. To me its the love I have for my whole family and my Heavenly Father.

Feeling Sentimental!
I'm taking a friends challenge and feeling sentimental about my husband so I'm tagged.
1. HOW DID YOU MEET YOUR SPOUSE?
This might be long but I will make it as short as possible. I'm from Northern Va and Romulo is from Brazil. He served his mission in the Washington DC South mission; which covers my home town of Purcellville, Va. Romulo's second area was in my home ward Hamilton. I met him a few times while on his mission. But it was when he was going home my older sister "kindly" exchanged my information with him. After his mission Romulo was planning on heading to Utah for school and I was going to be living in Utah for the summer; reason why my sister gave him my information. I was suppose to be his ride from the airport. Long story short, we talked a lot on Skype, im, and phone. After a month and a half I flew to Brazil to meet him and his family.
2. WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST DATE?
Romulo picking me up from the airport?! :) After he picked me up from the airport he took me to a little restaurant in Sao Paulo (Brazil) and we ate gnocchi.
3. HOW LONG DID YOU DATE BEFORE YOU GOT ENGAGED?
On our 3rd date he proposed to me. But we had been talking long distance a month and a half.
4. HOW DID YOUR FIANCE PROPOSE?
We were in Guaruja (a little island/beach outside of Sao Paulo) and there is a little hippy craft fair there along the beach. After we ate dinner, we headed to the fair. We were walking around enjoying the sites, people, and crafts when we decided to split up and buy a gift for each other. We decided on 3 reias which at the time was $1. I found a girl who spoke good enough English to help with my NO Portuguese. We met up outside the fair and started to walk along the beach. We sat down after a while and started to exchange gifts. I gave Romulo a leather braided necklace. Romulo gave me 3 gifts which the last one was two chrome rings. When he was presenting the rings I had no idea that he was proposing to me. It wasn't until he started to explain to me that in Brazil the custom was for both the girl and guy to were their wedding bands on their right ring finger while engaged and then when they get married they switch it over to the left ring finger. It all was a blur because I didn't expect it. I expected it but not at that time.
5. WHAT JOBS DID YOU TWO HAVE WHILE YOU WERE ENGAGED?
None. Romulo had just gotten off his mission and was in Brazil for 3 months before heading to school. I wasn't working that summer.
6. HOW LONG WERE YOU ENGAGED?
Engaged July 2 2004 and got married Sept 3 2004 so 2 months.
7. HOW OLD WERE YOU WHEN YOU GOT MARRIED?
I was 21 (3 weeks shy of my 22nd birthday). Romulo was 26 (his birthday is in July).
8. WHEN DID YOU GET MARRIED?
September 3, 2004
9. WHAT WERE YOUR COLORS?
Red and Creamy
10. HOW MANY BRIDESMAIDS DID YOU HAVE?
5 (my sisters Sarah, Marian, Ellen, and Emma plus my sister-in-law Molly Kay)
11. WHO WAS YOUR MAID OF HONOR?
Caroline
12. WHERE WAS THE CEREMONY?
Washington DC Temple
13. DID YOU HAVE A DJ OR BAND?
DJ ; super fun!
14. DID YOU HAVE A SONG YOU DANCED TO AND WHAT WAS IT?
Yes. My Valentine by Martina Mcbride; which my sister-in-law sang.
15. DID ANYTHING GO WRONG AT THE WEDDING OR RECEPTION?
Nope. It was perfect. And thankfully I had it recorded.
16.. WHAT CAR DID YOU LEAVE IN AND WHAT DID IT LOOK LIKE?
My parents car; Subaru Forester.
17. WHERE DID YOU GO FOR YOUR HONEYMOON?
Since we got married over Labor Day weekend and Romulo had just started school we really didn't get a "traditional honeymoon". We drove across country to Utah for Romulo to get back to school. But we spent our Wedding night in the Red Fox Inn (a bed and breakfast) that opened in 1728 and later in 1748 George Washington visited and stayed. Its on the National Register of Historic Places. The room we stayed in was the Martha Washington room. It was so lovely!
19. WOULD YOU HAVE CHANGED ANYTHING IF YOU COULD?
Eating the food that was catered by June Scott! She did a beautiful job.

Some Family Favorite Recipes
For those of you who don't know, I love to cook. Not only do I love to cook but I love to cook my family's recipes. Those Southern recipes with lots of brown sugar, butter, and no measurements. Ones that I learned watching my mom in the kitchen do and then going on to teach me. I remember when I was 18 just finishing high school I asking my mom if I could assist her in the kitchen for Thanksgiving. I needed to learn my mother's touch when it came to preparing the meal(s) me and my family LOVED!
I was excited that she accepted my offer. It wasn't like me or my 4 other sisters didn't help her in the kitchen its just that my mom is one of those mothers who cherishes her family and goes beyond the distance for us. I made it clear to her that I wanted to start with her in the kitchen when she did and stop when she did. (My mother never sits while she eats, she keeps working and eats here and there. And she always carries a smile on her face doing so.)
Boy did I get a rude awaking. My mother starts Thanksgiving morning (and Christmas) at 5:30am to get the turkey stuffed and in the oven. Then she starts cooking us breakfast. So, if I was to be in Virginia this Thanksgiving day I would be eating some of these recipes; all of which are passed from generation to generation. Some recipes don't have a FORMAL name they are named by us kids growing up and literally calling food by what they look like.
Thanksgiving time always requires us to make this favorite bread. My mom got it out of the Washington Post when President Bill Clinton was in office. It's Clinton's favorite Pumpkin Bread recipe. I still remember my mom's comment after we first tasted the bread, something like: "That Man sure does know how to eat."

This last recipe is a family favorite. Stewed Tomatoes pretty much kept my mom alive when she was pregnant. I remember her pregnant with Emma (I was probably 5) and sick as anything. But the only thing she could keep down was this recipe. Weird how the mind remembers which things.

New Moon
That's right people, I just got back from seeing "New Moon" at midnight and I'm making a post about it! Well, not a Movie Review or anything just that I saw it! Last year at this time Romulo was traveling for work to Seattle and when "Twilight" came out I flew to Seattle for the weekend but also to see the movie with him! We saw the midnight show along with everyone else in Seattle. And now this year, for "New Moon", Romulo and I saw the midnight show in San Francisco!
New Moon is so much better than the first one but still some actors need some major coaching! But overall, it's exciting to see a book come to life.
And a tip for all those crazy Twilight followers, the movie isn't going to change the outcome of the book. They aren't going to write the movie to make Bella fall in love with Jacob. As much as we all love Jacob the book was written for Bella to be with Edward so the movie isn't going to change that, SORRY!

Favorite Holiday Recipes To Come
I promise after this week is done I am going to post some of my favorite holiday recipes! But here is one just to hold you over.
Mom's Best Yams
2 cans of yams (the large can size) drained and mashed
1 can of crushed pineapple drained
1/2 stick of butter all cut up in little slices because you will put them randomly on top of yams when you go to cook them
1/4 to 1/2 cup of brown sugar (sugar to your liking but I put 1/2 cups...love brown sugar)
Combine the yams, brown sugar and pineapple in a large enough size pan. Then put slices of butter on the top randomly disbursed. Bake for 30 minutes at 325 (my mom always cooks/bakes at 325) or until bubbles appear. Then put MARSHMALLOWS (large or small whatever you want) on the top and bake for another 10-15 minutes. The marshmallows will get really big and puffy so don't put too many or it will explode over the top. But marshmallows should get brown on the top.

H2O
It rarely rains here in Northern CA but when it does it seems like everyone lets out a big sigh because well its dry and CA is known for their fires! And today it did just that, RAIN! I enjoy the rain, when I don't have to worry about my HAIR! Yes, I'm that vain okay!
Well, with the rain and all it made me think about my recent struggle with finding GOOD drinking water! (Go to WebMd and search Bottled Water and you will find some good articles on this topic.) I used to be a tap kind of girl but after I got married and moved to Utah I got turned off by the tap. And then I was diagnosed with IC and finding out about what the city/county put in the water worried me. I mean there could be too much chlorine, no chlorine, or just enough to get by. I'm just scratching the surface but trying to get you the idea about my "struggle".
Then, I moved to CA and thought well my water fight will be over. Nope, I mean the water here is fine but still the water at my home, church, and work are totally different! Plus, I like bottled water AND I really SHOULDN'T be buying bottled water. I should switch over to a water bottle that I can RE-USE! But, come on I'm working on one issue at a time!
Back to my struggle. Did you know that BOTTLED water isn't always from a SPRING. It could be just normal tap water with minerals added to it to CLEAN it up. Thus they call this processed "purified drinking water". Or that water can come from a Spring or Well! I mean water can be bottled in Europe and then shipped here to then have minerals added to it. Yeah, it's crazy! So the other day I found myself at the grocery store standing in the water section looking and reading the labels on the water. And I finally decided to buy ONE of EACH and try them out! I didn't even look at the price I just picked one of each up. Plus, what I still need to do is go to different stores and see what brands they have there.
Call me crazy but I matter how WATER tastes because I LOVE H2O. The colder the better! Which is another topic for another time. Cold cold things can be bad for your internal organs! Gosh can't things be simpler in life!
Listen to me! I'm off the SOAPBOX now! Next time enjoy a cold one for me! Oh, and what's your favorite brand of water?!

This Is It
Halloween has never really been my favorite holiday! In fact, I could care less. There's something about celebrating the dark side of life, people covering their faces with masks or paint, and going out at night to "trick or treat"! Why can't it be during the day when the sun is shining and warm on your face?!
Well, for this Halloween holiday Romulo and I went out to eat at a yummy Chinese restaurant and then saw a movie! Michael Jackson's This Is It movie truly is an amazing piece, if you like Michael and all! I loved seeing the behind the scenes, how a concert comes together, and seeing Michael of course. It's pretty amazing that this whole thing was shot because this movie was suppose to be for Michael's home video library.
When leaving the theater, I asked Romulo if he liked it. His response, "This makes me so mad! What a waste? How could he die on us, he had so much more to give!"
It's true how could he die on us! I mean listening to his music changes something inside you! But this Halloween holiday made me realize that we all need to start with the "man in the mirror". Love everyone, love all!
