4 Month Stats

Well our little Kau'e isn't so little when it comes to his weight, height, and head measurements! Today Kau'e went for his 4 month check up (day before he turns 4 months) and he's in the 90% for everything. And that is based on his birth date and not his due date. Our Doctor joked that if we based his stats on his due date he wouldn't have any lines to chart it on.

4 Month Check Up:

Weight: 17 lbs 3 oz
Height: 24.5 inches
Head Circumference: 42.5 centimeters

I loved seeing him today so alert and respond so well to what the doctor was doing. Our Peds Dr joked that we have a full-backer on our hands and that he doesn't look like he's missed a meal!

The plan for the next month is to introduce him to 1-2 bottles of milk-base formula per day and see how he responds. If he does well then we can hopefully get him to all bottles being milk-based and help Mom and Dad save a little money each month because his other formula is so expensive. Also, around 5 or 5 1/2 months introduce him to rice cereal and then hopefully around 6 months we can start giving him solids! Bring on the home-made baby food! (My mom is a pro at it, so when we go there in a few weeks she's going to show me all her tricks.)

Our little man is certainly doing well and it warms my heart knowing that yes he came into this world early and struggled with his weight that he hasn't let that hold him back to growing into the boy he was intended to be!

We love you Mr. Chubbs! XOXO

A Gift For Kau'e

When Kau'e was born and I was released from the hospital they gave me a bag full of goodies; like a cute onsie, the bag, water bottle, etc. etc.! But at the time all I really wanted was to be released with my baby but that didn't happen for another week and a half. But any way, they gave me this cute onsie and at the time I had to laugh because Kau'e was only 5 lbs 2 oz and the size of the onsie was 3-6 months. And just the other day I found it in his pile of clothes and I thought we needed to put him in it just once because this kid has grown and is growing overnight! So here is he with his CPMC Beyond Medicine onsie.

Also, my parents sent me this really cute book that has my dad's voice reading the book to Kau'e. The first time I opened it and heard my dad's voice I cried. We try to read it everyday or better yet listen to my dad read it to us everyday. And today here his Kau'e enjoying hearing Grand-Dad's voice.

Happy Easter

Kau'e enjoyed his 1st Easter with Mom and Dad. He didn't get any chocolate or candy but he got plenty of Milk! He did get some eggs (empty; sad I know) inside of his Sock Monkey Easter Basket along with a Sock "Rabbit" Monkey doll. He had an enjoyable day at church with Mom and Dad and then came home and slept and ate some more milk. Next year, we'll dye some eggs and maybe do an Easter Egg Hunt! I wanted to take Kau'e to the mall to see the Easter Bunny but Romulo thought we would scare him to death so next year we'll just have to do that!

I had visions that after church today I would take a family picture of us but Kau'e was having a meltdown because he ate all the milk I brought and wanted another bottle plus he was hot from the little "Easter outfit" I had him in. And when little ones are crying all plans are out the window! But here's my attempt to redeem my plans and yes nobody is in their Sunday best. Oh well!

UP Front and Personal with Tummy Time

Kau'e loves tummy time and as of lately loves his fingers!

Kau'e has become very alert to his surrounds and is really concentration on objects. We go on daily walks outside and he loves to look around and is usually very peaceful. He is one good boy and really isn't any trouble for Romulo or myself. Sure he likes to test us at times by crying but that's just because he wants to get our attention or he's too tired to know what to do with himself. He's also one amazing sleeper, that trait is from me, he will go to bed around 7-8:30pm (gives us stretches of sleep for 6-8 hours straight), wakes up around 3-4am for a feeding, and then usually wakes up for another feeding around 6am (another 2-4 hours) and then usually around 8-9am he's up ready for the day. So all in all he sleeps about 12-14 hours with about two feedings during that time.

I remember the first time he did this, I thought man I could really function if I keep getting sleep like this. I guess, I'm lucky because that boy has been doing it for almost 3 weeks and Mom isn't ready for a change! Ha! Really! Trust me I'm not doing anything special and yes there are nights he fights us and it takes close to 2 hours to finally get him settled. Sometimes he will be asleep with the bottle in his mouth and I take it out and he's still passed out but the second I stand up he's UP! So we start the cycle all over again.

(He really likes it when I sing "You Are My Sunshine". I try other songs but it wakes him up, so I sing it over and over and over again. I love it.)

Sherlock Holmes

solves the mystery again! Kau'e the past month has been shedding his little baby hair like crazy. It drives me nuts when I go to kiss him and his little hairs stick to my lips or when I give him a bath and wipe him off and lotion him up his little hairs are everywhere on him! It makes me so angry knowing that this little freshly washed baby now has hairs everywhere on him! Ha! I figured he was just losing it so new big boy hair could grow in and came with terms that he was starting to get a major comb-over (Romulo wants to buzz his hair and then let the hair grow back evenly; if it will grow back evenly)!

Proof of Comb-over

But the mystery was solved that its just more than washing his hair, combing his hair, and just because he's a baby with hair at birth that he needs to lose it to get new big boy hair in!...look what I found in his bassinet today!

Look at all those little black hairs! I took some tape and got them all off and now will put them in a scrap book or shadow box for keeps!

There's a New Sheriff In Town

And he goes by the name of Mr Chubbs aka Kau'e! His choice of drink is straight up warm milk and seems to always be yelling MORE MILK, MILK, MILK please. He doesn't carry a gun but his diapers are always loaded with either #1's and/or #2's! He gets the attention of his suspects aka MOM and DAD by always giving a warning cry first before letting loose on them with his powerful lungs! But don't be fooled he's just like every other sheriff, you will find him asleep on the job!

Hard to say GoodBye

It was hard saying good-bye to this apartment, so much happened in it. But as they say, when one door has closed another one has opened!

Evening Walk with Mom and Dad

Last night we took a family walk along the trail that is close to our apartment. We love living back in Walnut Creek and know that we will have a better quality of life here in the suburbs with Kau'e!

Here is Kau'e with his warm fuzzy jacket on getting ready to go for his walk (or ride in his stroller)!

And after the walk while mom was drawing Kau'e's bath, Kau'e and Daddy had some snuggle time. Too cute.

Look at our little Blue Eye Shark!

Kau'e with his favorite Sock Monkey friend who just happens to be wearing one of Kau'e's preemie shirts that Kau'e wore when he was born and staying in the NICU (crazy huh how small it is)!

Kau'e with his Sock Monkey Easter Basket that MeMom gave him! How cute? I love sock monkeys.

And lastly, Kau'e just happened to be on Team Grandpa (or Team Vovo and Team Grand-Dad).

So That's How He Gets Big and Strong

By pumping iron during play time on his Zoo Friends Play Mat!

Kau'e was too cute today during his 1 hour play time (yes, 1 hour folks)on the mat. He was all smiles and "talking"/laughing.

I wish the videos did justice to just how adorable he was today playing!

Ivy League

We are preparing for Kau'e to go to an Ivy League school with this adorable RL outfit! Don't worry Dad (Grand-Dad) they're not UVA colors. The outfit is coral and navy!

14 Weeks

Our Little Monkey is 14 weeks today! And here are some pictures I took of him this morning!

Kau'e is focusing on giving Mom a burp!

Kau'e watching TV! with Mom in my T-shirt and Sweatpants!

Kau'e's new trick with his tongue! He sucks on his upper lip and it makes a smacking noise! Too cute! I think he has Mom's tongue because its long and skinny; where Dad's is short and fat!

Our Gift

My soul is humbled today when I think of this day last year. I know they say that time heals the heart but there are some things that will always hurt. Last year on this day Romulo and I headed to the Fertility Center to get my blood drawn to see if we were pregnant or not from the IVF we had done two weeks prior. Receiving that call from our doctor was probably one of the hardest things I have ever heard in my life. I'm just glad that I had Romulo by my side to help me get through it.

But here we are 1 year later with a healthy 2 month old baby boy, Kau'e, who we love so much and thank our lucky stars (and Heavenly Father) for the gift he is! If you would have told me that day when our IVF pregnancy came back negative that 2 months later we would be pregnant on our own I would have laughed at you and said something really mean to you.

I want to Thank everyone of you who helped, supported, loved me/us through that rough period in our lives!

Instead of receiving one of these babies:

We received this beautiful baby:

And now are a family of 3:
