Easter Pictures and Kau'e's Spring School Picture

Yara's Eyes

My little girl has the biggest brightest eyes.  But it was recently that we noticed a change in her left eye.  Her eye at certain angels would look crossed or inward.  I mostly recognized it when I was either looking up at her or down on her like if we were on the stairs or she was on the playground.  At first I made every excuse in the book about what I thought I was seeing; oh she's tired, I didn't see that right, or she has funny control of her eyes, or she's sick, etc.  But after a week of noticing it I told Romulo to go play with her and see if he noticed anything.  I didn't want to lead him on to what I already knew.  Sure enough he noticed it.  Another week went by and then it was Spring Break.  We were home a lot together and her eye was crossing more and more and by then I knew I had to take her to the doctors.  It was almost 3 weeks by this time.  Her Pediatrician had us go to a Pediatric Ophthalmologist.   Luckily two days later Dr Kern's office had an opening.  I took it.
It was that day that we found out that she did have a problem that needed to be corrected with surgery.  Oh the pain it brought to my heart.  My little girl.  Her little head tilt up and to the right was not her little personality that we all thought.  It was a head tilt of 40 degree that allowed her left eye to see like her right eye did.  Oh my heart aches.  She was diagnosed with a condition called, double elevator palsy.  There are muscles above and below your eyes that allow you to look up and down without having to tilt your head. Well her muscles either above or below are not working right.  The doctor won't know which set of muscles it is until she gets into surgery.  But Dr Kern's is pretty confident that it's the lower muscle under her eye.  And if it is then that means her muscle below her eye is too tight and won't allow her eye to look up.  But when she tries to look up her eye has no where to go because of the muscle being too tight and then her eye goes inward because it has no where to go.  Her head tilt allows her to see up but then its when her head is titled all the way it can that she wants to still see items above it that her eye goes in.  Her head tilt doesn't help her because its tilted to the max.  Does that make sense?
So we head back to the doctor on May 7th for more measurements and to make sure nothing else is happening.  We will need to do a MRI to look in and make sure no tumors or anything else is causing this issue.  The doctor was a little concern about the recent noticing of the eyes movement.  We will know more later.  But surgery is in the very near future; like early summer.
I'll keep you posted.  Here's a good and bad example of her eye.  It's her left eye or on our right.  This happens too at this angel.

Busy times

Busy times for the Aguilar household.  I will list in no order what has been happening with us!

-Mom, aka Lydia or Me, has been enrolled in school at BYU-I pathway program to finish up her degree she started back in 2001.  Luckily, a lot of information has come back to my mind after 10 years of not being in school.  I also am blessed that BYU-I took my associates degree from NOVA so that much is behind me.  I will do pathways program of 2 classes (one religion and one other like english, math, etc) per semester for 1 year.  During that one year I go to Thursday night gatherings for 1 hour.  It's a lot of fun and I am having a blast.  Tonight is my last gathering and tomorrow I take my finals.  I'm excited.  Its been  lot of fun because I've been doing it with Thomas; plus two other ladies from my ward and we carpool.

-Romulo has been busy with Busy Season and I think the end is almost near us.

-Yara is a busy soul.  She has a lot of personality that sometimes makes it difficult at times because she wants to be a free spirit but I can't sometimes let her be.  She is fearless on the playground.  She usually wants to go down the slide standing on her feet.  She gets upset when she falls on her bum doing just that on the slide.  But she will try anything and everything especially food.  She is my condiment child; dipping everything in ketcup or ranch.  I haven't tried anything else.  But on Tuesday she requested by trying to say Please and rubbing her chest in the circular motion of sign language of please and pointing to the fridge.  I thought she wanted milk but shook her head no and pointed to the ranch.  So I gave her some ranch to dip her waffles, grapes, banana, sausage breakfast into.  Interesting!

-Kau'e has been a joy to watch blossom from school.  He still has his moments but he has really improved when we are in new situations/places.  He is trying new words and new phrases all the time when he does speak.  He knows what we are asking of him when we want something from him.  It's not so much of a fight anymore.  Trust me its still hard he is 3 after all but so much better.  His skills are improving.

-The house has gotten a lot of improvements; new light fixtures in stairways, kids got fans in their room, ceilings are finally painted, we will be getting a back fence soon, the rest of the can lights will be installed in the livingroom/kitchen/family room, and I think all rooms are painted.

-We went to New Market to my parents second home two weekends ago to help them install drywall to the upstairs loft area.  Oh the pain it was but so worth it!  It was actually fun!  Nice little get away even if we did do manual labor.  Fun.

-We had our friends, Lia and Anders, over for a lunch on Sunday.  They are moving to Atlanta.  I will be sad to see them leave but good to meet them even if it was for a year since we met them.  But we will stay in touch.

-I'm sure more has happened just can't think about it now.  But just the every day activity is enough to keep us busy.

Kau'e and School

Kau'e is loving and learning so much in school!  I mean this kid wakes up and asks, "Yellow bus?".  He hasn't left or come home crying or upset.  He has to be reminded all the time to slow down that the bus isn't going to leave him!  He loves it!  He is all smiles!  I mean the weekends are tough because he asks for the bus!  Plus he loves his backpack!  He touches his lower back area and says BackPack.  He is growing so much and I love to see the growth in him.  I know its tough being away from him for so long but he is growing and learning.  He's in the right place.  He goes to school Monday through Friday every day from 7:36am when the bus comes to 12:05pm when he is dropped off at home.  It's a long time but he is doing great.  Between all the snow days and delays he is doing great when he goes.

Let me tell you its amazing how much you can get done in those 4 hours when you only have 1 kid at home.  I too get a lot done when I take Yara to my moms and I can run my crazy errands.

Yara misses him though.  She most days needs to go to my moms to play with the other kids because she cries and calls for Kau'e when we are home.  We are trying to do more together one on one but when you are used to having a big brother at home its different when he's gone.

Yara 18 months old

My baby is a year and a half old!  How is this possible?  Well, we were to have her wellness check up today but she is sick and it turned into a sick visit; ear infection!  Figures!  But we have a reschedule appoint later in March.

What a joy this little girl is to us!?  She is such a blessing!  Full of life, happiness, and adventure.  She gets hurt more than Kau'e but then again she is a half pint compared to Kau'e.  She is learning so much and loves to learn.

Height: 33" (75-90%)
Weight: 23 2.5lbs (25-50%)
Head: 75%
Shoe size 6-6.5

Clothes: She is in a 24 month/2T clothing but only for length because she is so tall enough though the waist is better in the 18 months!  Her arms, torso, and legs are so long so she needs that bigger size.  We have been so blessed to have hand me downs from friends and family.  We do buy her things here and there but its saves us lots by getting things from people.  Blessed!

Diapers: Size 3; Still!  Really her waist isn't getting bigger!  She is starting to wear over night diapers though!

Eyes: Brown!  Big beautiful brown eyes.  I think her eyes are the biggest thing about her!

Hair: Brown - light to medium dark brown.  It is straight/curly.

Skin: light tone with some olive to it. She is a little mini me but a little darker tone.

Bed: she is now in a FULL size bed.  She wasn't sleeping well in her toddler bed and well she ended up with us in our bed so we bought her a big bed so we could go back and lay with her to get her asleep.  It's a slow process but she is doing great.

Sleep: Ha!  She will sleep but its a fight.  She still only naps once a day and its starting to become a habit to stay up until Kau'e gets off the bus at noon.  She loves to see him get off the bus so I just wait!  They both go down for a nap at noon and she will sleep anywhere from 1 1/2 hours to 2 hours.  But some days are better than others.  Some days I have to stay with her in her bed for the whole time because she has to be touching me!  All is a process right!

Foods: Ha!  Anything and everything she sees!  Really!  She is a champ at eating just wish her weight and waist showed it a little more!  But she does poop a lot! Like 4 times a day!  Fast metabolism I guess.  Lucky.

Toys: Minnie Mouse!, Woody, Buzz, and pretty much anything else in between.  She is an easy go lady.

She is mommy's little helper.  If I am down on the ground picking up toys or cleaning she is right there beside me doing the work with me.  It's adorable.  Or when I'm putting on lotion or make up she will watch me and imitate what I'm doing.  She is a little lady!  She loves to put Vaseline on her lips and loves to dip her finger in it!  She is a sweet girl and loves to gives hugs and kisses to everyone.  She loves to wave bye bye.

Words: everything.  she repeats us and is really learning lots because of the work we are doing with Kau'e and his school.  She loves to pick up books and have us read them.  She has learned her farm animals names and sounds.

I sit and think sometimes that I don't have her captured enough in pictures or videos and I feel bad about it.  I know life is busy but is it too busy to take monthly pictures of her like I did with Kau'e?  I take a lot of iphone pictures but that isn't the same as really nice camera pictures.  I know my problem is a lens, my nice lens broke.  Need to get it fixed.  Excuses!  I will try to get more pictures soon and get my iphone pictures on this blog to have her in pictures more.  She is such a beautiful girl!  Really big brown eyes and loving smile.

Yellow Bus

Kau'e is riding the bus as of today!  The morning bus comes at 7:36am (bus number 801) and then they drop him off at 12:05pm (bus number 270).  He loved it this morning. I mean he loves the bus but he has never gotten on or off of one so this was going to be interesting.  But he handled it well. He marched on up with the assistant, Shashi, and went to his seat.  The bus driver, Linda, seemed nice.  He was looking out the window and never seemed worried; he had a smile on his face.  My heart melts thinking about it.

Preschool

Kau'e starts preschool tomorrow at Ken Culbert Elementary School with Ms MaryAnn Childs' as the teacher.  I went in on Friday to meet her and to go over his IEP.  I am so calm about this but I am a wreck too.  My little boy who just turned 3 will be going to Preshool in an Elementary school.  Today Kau'e got to meet his teacher, Ms MaryAnn and Ms Kelly the assistant.  I loved seeing new toys but he did his true colors too.  He for whatever reason didn't want to go into the school and I think it was because he saw buses out front of the school.  Then when walking down the hall he wanted to bolt everywhere anywhere.  But once we got into his class he calmed down because he saw toys.  So with that he got to know his teacher and she got to know him.  So here's to tomorrow!

New Year's New Goals

I'll go back and post a blog about Christmas and all that happened!  It was a lot but now thinking about it I have no clue what happened!  I know Christmas Even and Christmas happened but what exactly I'm not sure.  Once I remember to bring up my camera from downstairs and look at the pictures I took everything will come back!

Goals for the new year!  Where to begin? How about a list?

1. Blog every Sunday as a journal.  Even if nothing eventful happened I still want to write what happened.

2. I'm back in school!  Sigh!  It's true on Jan 6th I started the BYU-I Pathway program.  It has been 10 years since I got my AA from NOVA.  Plus I'm doing it with Thomas.  Cool huh doing it with my brother!  I'm excited and nervous.  I've already planned out how the next years will go and hopefully I will graduate some time in 2017.  Its an online program where you first do a year of getting your feet wet and then you jump into things.  I'm hoping I will be able to juggle 9 credit hours per semester! If that's the case then that would be 27 credits per year and since I already have 60+ credits and counting on BYU-I taking them all I shouldn't have that much to do.

3. Organize my life better! From head to toe!  If something is taken away from its place put it back as soon as its done with!  Don't wait for tomorrow because today is now!

4. Work out and lose some weight!  I loved that I got my surgery done but all energy and excitement left to do the healthy eating and exercising.  Plus Christmas was in there plus Thanksgiving!  Ouch.  But I'm getting my eating back and then I will get exercising in there again.  Slow and steady.

5.  Pray and read scriptures better.

Kau'e is 3

It's amazing how 3 years went by!  I mean it was just yesterday I waiting in the hospital not knowing if he was going to be born okay.  I was in the hospital waiting 5 days before he was delivered.  My little preemie baby boy 3 years old!  He had his 3 year wellness check up on 1/2/2014.

Stats: 47.5 lbs
Height 3ft 4in

He is a big boy!

Clothing: 5-7 boys size
Shoe size: 9.5 extra wide
Diaper: 6

We are so proud of our little boy!  He is going to be going to preschool through the school system sometime in January.  He qualified for the preschool program after we went through Child Find to get him tested.  He is making progress and I know once he's in school he will improve even more.

He loves Toy Story right now.  He is so into the movies that he asks for more Buzz and Woody.  Its adorable.  For Christmas he received the large size of Buss and Woody.  You can't imagine how much he loves them.  He always remembers Woody's hat too.  And he plays with them and pretends to lose Woody's hat and then Buzz will find it.  Or put the hat on Buzz and say stuff.  It's hilarious to watch him play pretend.  He doesn't do that!  But he's getting into it.

He is a great sleeper.  He sleeps from 7:30-7:45pm to about 5:45-6am.  It's early but we can usually get him to lay with us or we put the tv on in our room and he sits on the ottoman at the foot of our bed.  It's cute.  Plus he still naps for me.  They are anywhere from 1 hour to 2 hours depending on whatever.

He is a good eater too.  He has his moments but he is 3 after all. He loves his dinosaur chicken nuggets.

He still drinks Almond Milk.  He still has allergies to strawberries, molds, grasses, and trees.  But his allergy meds help out in the seasonal things.

Kau'e loves his sister.  He does get upset at her if she is trying to take every toy away from him but he doesn't mind if she pulls his hair or play bits his feet.  It's hilarious he say's "Oh Ya-Ya" and laughs.  We have to watch her...lol!

Well since his birthday is Dec 28 and so close to Christmas we changed his party from the Saturday before 12/21/13 instead of his actually birthday.  Memom and Gradad were going to San Diego to visit Emma, Sawyer, and Calvin so we changed it.  It was a pirate themed party.  It was a blast.  We handed out little party favors first because inside the bag was all things to dress up as a pirate with; tattoos, patches, necklaces, stickers, eye scoop, hat, and a whistle.  Romulo and I made a ship cake for him.  We took a tin turkey pan and molded it to his Buckey Jake Ship then put in two cake mixes and baked it. We then iced it with 3 icings and then added pretzels, life savors mints, and toy helm and Jake doll.  Plus the ship was on the sea waters (blueberry blue jello). (Pictures to come of all.)  We then ate all pirate foods; seaweed wraps (costco turkey wraps), fish and chips (gold fish and chips), jewels (fruit: blueberries, grapes, and apples), cannons (popcorn), salt water (bottled water), and gold of nuggets (chicken nuggets).  We had them color and then go downstairs were we opened presents and had them free play.  It was a blast.  I know he loved it.

Santa 2013

Well we went to see Santa and of course my children burst my perfect world bubble again.  But its okay because these are memories!  Picture of the kids with Santa, some after shock pictures, and pictures from Sunday morning before church.
