Monticello

Monticello is an Italian word with a meaning of "Little Mountain" and is/was the home of the 3rd President of the United States, Thomas Jefferson. Romulo, Kau'e, my Dad, and myself had the opportunity to visit Monticello and boy was it beautiful. I remember going as a child but haven't seen the beauty of this creation with Adult Eyes! It made my heart full of love for the dedication and belief Thomas Jefferson had for the future of America. (Man, I miss the early American history that surrounds the East coast; like VA!) And Little Kau'e was such a little trooper. He loved being carried in the carrier by Romulo and would just look around and smile at our tour guide or at the many rooms we visited.

Interesting Facts:
-Jefferson would record the weather twice a day and did this for over 40 years. On top of his home was a weather vane that showed the direction of the wind.
-8 total clocks at the Monticello Estate
-Over 6,000 of Jefferson's personal books were sold to the Library of Congress in the amount of (then) $24,000
-Jefferson couldn't live without books so he went out and bought more books
-Jefferson had 11 children
-Jefferson died on the 50th anniversary, July 4th 1826, of the Signing of the Declaration of Independence.
-8 skylights are in the house
-The house was originally designed to have 1 floor with 8 rooms but after his time in France he redesigned it to have a total of 3 levels and 21 rooms.
